Carlos Blanco, MD is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Research Scientist in the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Blanco is a graduate of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain) and completed his psychiatry residency at Columbia University, where he also completed a fellowship in Clinical Research at the Anxiety Disorders Clinic.

Dr. Blanco has conducted studies establishing the efficacy of combined medication and psychotherapy treatment for social anxiety disorder, as well as studies of the prevalence, course and predictors of remission of social anxiety disorder in the general population. His research also examines the epidemiology and treatment of disorders that often occur together, such as mood or anxiety disorders and substance use disorders. Dr. Blanco’s research has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Cancer Institute, New York State and numerous private foundations. He is the author of over 120 scholarly publications.
